Who clicks on online ads?

For a while now, I've been asking people in my circles, who clicks on ads? So, I've reached the same conclusion I've personally had: nobody. I don't click on ads because

organic results are always better than sponsored results

and also because, it seemed to me, that the sites behind the ads were coming from big players in the respective niche trying to shove products down my throat, I was not going to do that, was I? My interest went for genuinely authentic and honest work on a personal level by real people that I could read about.
So, my reasons are

  • a slight feeling of desperation to reach you
  • unauthentic

I haven't been able to find any google results on this particular question. The reason might be that it's a too-obvious question. But let's reformulate:

Who uses adblock?

Everyone. Now this question actually did ocurred to others: here -which talks mainly about the bad user experience it generates. But other people are actually against it on the basis that it hurts the revenue of those content providers. Well..

Conclusion?

To my understanding, online advertising is probably the most useless, least-value creating, device that the internet has created. Thinking that less than 5% of the people that see an add would actually click it? That's enough for me not to display it altogether.
